Story of Season

Description (Eng) :

To represent the story of the seasons, I chose a rhapsody style form (linking of different themes, colours, harmonies for narrative purposes). The first part represents winter with the celesta and the glockenspiel expressing the cold through the high and pearl tessitura. 

The second part represents spring with warmer harmonies and the flute imitating birdsong. Summer comes directly with a more playful character with an acceleration of the harmonic rhythm. The melodies are more nervous and alternate to express two distinct personalities that concert together. 

The third part is announced by the minorization of the summer theme and the appearance of descending chromatic motifs to express the leaves that are gradually falling from the trees. The autumn theme is a small descending and ascending chromaticism to give the image of the leaf slowly floating to the ground. The minor theme in the piano represents the cold that grows increasingly louder until it reaches its climax with the return of the winter theme.

Pour représenter l'histoire des saisons, j'ai choisi une forme de style rhapsodique (enchaînement de différents thèmes, couleurs, harmonies à des fins narratives). La première partie représente l'hiver avec le célesta et le glockenspiel exprimant le froid par les tessitures aiguës et perlées. 

La deuxième partie représente le printemps avec des harmonies plus chaudes et la flûte imitant le chant des oiseaux. L'été arrive directement avec un caractère plus enjoué avec une accélération du rythme harmonique. Les mélodies sont plus nerveuses et alternent pour exprimer deux personnalités distinctes qui se concertent. 

La troisième partie est annoncée par la minorisation du thème de l'été et l'apparition de motifs chromatiques descendants pour exprimer les feuilles qui tombent progressivement des arbres. Le thème d'automne est un petit chromatisme descendant et ascendant pour donner l'image de la feuille qui flotte lentement vers le sol. Le thème mineur du piano représente le froid qui devient de plus en plus fort jusqu'à atteindre son point culminant avec le retour du thème d'hiver.
